Blue Toby and the Little Seed

A little story about care, patience, and friends.

Blue Toby, Taboshi, and Patience smile at a tiny seedling in a flowerpot by the pond.

1. A very small beginning

One morning, Blue Toby found a little seed beside the pond.

It was smaller than a pebble. Smaller than a raindrop. Toby held it gently.

“What will you become?” he wondered.

Taboshi rustled beside him. Patience settled on a smooth stone. The three friends looked at the tiny seed together.

2. A home for the seed

“We can give it a place to grow,” said Taboshi.

With a grown-up’s help, the friends filled a little pot with soil. Toby tucked the seed inside. They gave it a gentle drink of water and found a bright place for its new home.

Toby leaned close. “Are you growing yet?”

The soil stayed quiet.

3. A hurry in Toby’s heart

Toby looked again. And again.

“Perhaps I should pull it up to see!” he said.

“Then we might disturb its little roots,” said Taboshi.

Patience smiled. “Some things happen where we cannot see them.”

Toby put his feet beside the pot instead. “Then what can I do?”

4. Small, kind things

“We can care for it,” said Taboshi. “And learn what it needs.”

Each day, Toby and his grown-up checked the soil. Sometimes the seed needed a little water. Sometimes it needed to be left alone.

Taboshi helped Toby notice the sunlight. Patience kept him company while they waited.

And while the seed rested, the friends shared stories, watched clouds, and helped tidy the garden.

5. A little green hello

One morning, after many quiet days, Toby noticed something new.

A tiny green shoot had lifted through the soil.

“Hello!” Toby whispered.

He wanted to shout. Instead, he called his friends over gently. Taboshi leaned close. Patience beamed.

They had not hurried the seed. They had made room for it to grow.

6. Growing together

“I thought waiting meant doing nothing,” Toby said.

“Sometimes waiting means caring,” said Taboshi.

“And sometimes it means enjoying today,” said Patience.

Toby looked at the seedling, then at his friends.

The plant was still very small. There was more to learn and more care to give.

“We can grow together,” he said.
